Who We Are

SWSP exists to promote excellence in education and the science of periodontology. Our society consists of periodontists from Arkansas, Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Louisiana.

The Mission of the Southwest Society of Periodontists is to serve its members in their specialty for quality health care and professional development.

SWSP has establish the following goals to guide our activities:

  • To be a premier resource for quality professional information and continuing education.
  • To facilitate membership growth, involvement and professional interaction.
  • To be a financially secure and efficiently managed and stable organization.
  • To be an advocate for the profession.

Nominate a Peer for an Academy Award

American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) awards recognize individuals for contributions to the Academy and the profession of periodontics. Awards are given in several areas: education and mentoring, scientific and clinical research, and service to the AAP and periodontics. The deadline for award nominations is January 31, 2023. Please consider nominating a peer for an Academy Award.

Please take a moment to nominate a colleague, teacher, scientist or humanitarian for an AAP award. You can find the award nomination form at https://www.perio.org/for-members/aap-organizational-information/academy-awards/award-nomination-form/. Supplementary materials (CVs, letters of support, etc.) may be emailed directly to the Manager of Governance, Amanda Williams at [email protected]rio.org. There is no capped length for CVs or letters of support.

ADA 10 Under 10 Nominations Now Open

Developed by the ADA New Dentist Committee in 2017, this award recognizes 10 amazing dentists who graduated from a dental school  less than 10 years ago. We’re celebrating dentists who demonstrate excellence and inspire others in science, research & education, practice excellence, philanthropy, leadership and advocacy.

Nominations are open from October 1-December 31, 2022 and winners are recognized in spring 2023.

Prichard Award Winners

The 2022 John F. Prichard Graduate Research Competition was an outstanding success once again. Fourteen abstracts were submitted from the Air Force Postgraduate Dental School, Louisiana State University, Texas A & M College of Dentistry, University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston, University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry, and UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry.
